Hi,

Just completed the build of the Micro - B which is in the EZB class of indoor free flight rubber models.
Wing span 17 inches.
The target weight for this design is 0.75 gms or less -- has been built upto 0.45 gms.
This can be achieved if you have special indoor low density balsa ground to required thickness which is not available in India. Can be imported from guys specialising in this -- pretty expensive.
I managed to keep the weight down to 3.0 gms.

This model can do flights up to 20 mins if trimmed well and the proper propeller (pitch) and rubber thickness ( gives correct torque) combination is used.

Flights in the house show a stable glide and very slow sink rate. Seems promising. Proper test flights in large indoor space will be done shortly.

Pics of model and build details being attached.

Hi,

Some build pics of the Micro -- B

Wing, stab and fin covered with  2 micron thickness mylar.

Will notice tail boom at angle -- this makes model turn in left hand circle.

Wing and stab posts and prop shaft made of 1 mm carbon fibre rod -- stiff strong balsa of this thin dimension difficult to get -- tried stripped bamboo -- carbon rod weight was same but it is much stiffer.

Propeller Nose ring and bearing is from Ikara.

Propeller blades sanded to 0.15 mm thickness and moulded on 3 inch dia bottle. Prop pitch set at 45 degs on propeller pitch gauge.

See pics

Hi,

Some more pics of the build

Also pic of a balsa stripper. Absolutely essential for indoor ultra light construction.

Wing and stab posts of 1 mm carbon rod. Tissue tubes fixed on wing and stabs for mounting wing on fuselage -- the angle of incidence can then be adjusted to give optimum lift.Stab incidence can also be adjusted to give elevator effect.

Would welcome any queries or comments.

The micro EZB is safe in a box. Must get it out someday again for flights.
Rains in full swing here in Goa.
Kept busy with an offbeat model - cylindrical wing - the Hoopskirt

https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=9681

Original had a Cox 0.020. I’m trying to see if a 8520 motor  1S battery , E20 timer, with1300 mm prop with reduction gear will give sufficient power.

Tried to post a pic - file size too large.
Will compress and post the build in separate post
