There are no stupid questions, just stupid people

hmmm.... use a simulator and start practicing on mode 2 once you are confident you can work your way in the sky... its best to crash on the sim than to crash your pocket ... cheers..

No Offence Meant, but its like a left hand person asking now he wants to convert to right handed person since remaining 85% are right handed.

I thing it does not matter weather you are left are right handed or you fly mode 1 or mode 2 what matters is what you have been used to and what you are comfortable with. unless you are planning to fly with their remotes you should continue to fly as you are.

Learning to Fly

As far as I know, Mode 1 has throttle and aileron on the left while Mode 2 has Throttle and Rudder on the left. Now the question is, for someone used to Mode 1 Radio but not wishes to use a Mode 2 Tx, just a simple interchange between Rudder and Aileron servo would work won't it?

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Yes, except the stick tension.  Elevator tends to come back to the middle, so you have to forcefully hold it down initially for idle throttle position.  I do this when testing aircraft belonging to mode 1 flyers (member "Prakkat" on our forum is the usual suspect Smiley ), where I just change the radio to mode 2 in the software (Futaba 9C and many others allow for mode change in software, you have to fix the stick tension/ratchet settings physically though).  After the switch is done is software, I hold down elevator (which is now throttle), and make sure the ratcheted throttle (which has now become elevator) is in the middle, and start the plane and fly.

This helps avoid having to rewire the receiver connections for quick tests.  When the testing/trimming is done, just switch the mode back to Mode 1, and life continues for the mode 1 flyer.

My initial mentor in RC, Joe Marudo from the Philippines, could fly both modes ! Shocked

Please see this discussion... there are distinct advantages to heli flying when you are mode 2.  There is some advantage to airplane flying when you are mode 1.

The biggest reason to "join the crowd" is to for members to play with each other's toys, without elaborate (i.e. time consuming) setup changes.

You mean the same person switches to Mode 1 for Airplane and to Mode 2 for Heli Flying? Thats strange never come across yet

Not sure how that conclusion came about Smiley

I was only talking about general advantages of each mode... never meant one person switching depending on plane or heli !

The comment about Joe was that he could fly both modes, regardless of helis or planes (although he mostly flew helis).

I never thought it could be implied that way, since there was no mention of the "same person"... learnt something Smiley

But people do switch for their advancement in flying.  We had one flyer on our field switch from Mode 1 to Mode 2, because he wanted to do clean piro-flips in heli flying, which he found very difficult with Mode 1.

IN THRUST WE TRUST.....!!

as stated by sundaramvelar  it is the same reason here.......

i have people here who fly on mode 2 only.....
they mostly don't fly.....much

so as if i convert to mode 2 i get a chance to fly their..... i am thinking to completely change to mode 2 as being on mode 1 will be of no help.......

i have a futaba 6EXA so converting the radio for mode 1 to mode 2 will not be the problem....(as well as software is concerned only the spring to be changed internally)

and i have already started practicing on da sim...... Salute
