Title: KESL 32" Wing
Post by: R C on September 28, 2010, 02:09:59 AM
Hi all,

I had an oppurtunity to meet Ujjwana(Ujjwal) on 19 of this month, he invited me to his house & then he displayed all the electronics & the model what he has.

I was very much impressed by the KESL model what he had built & i decided to make one.

I had some 4mm depron left with me, so i decided to make a 32" model, with the help of Ujjwal i started the model on 20 of this month and worked for about two hours daily, i have almost completed the model, without Ujjwal's help i wouldn't have done all this, as this is "MY FIRST DEPRON MODEL". i troubled Ujjwal everyday by calling him and asking him for help & he was alway helpful. Thanks Ujjwal..............    :salute:

Power system:
EMAX CF 2812 (RCD)
1000 mah, 3 cell
8x6 or 8x4 prop
30 amps esc.

Thanks

Attached are few pics.

Almost completed, i have hinged the elevon & glued the fins, i have used 3mm carbon rod to reinforce the depron & used small piece of bass wood between the model on which i have mounted the motor.

I will put sticker on it, just working on it, if anyone has any suggestion regarding the stickering part please post some pics, it would be a great help, as i am very bad at color combination.

planning to color the canopy black.

Thanks

Hey Sharad! Pleasure was mine to visit such 'Balsa Mecca'. Your Guppy and Apple Box has brought my love for woods back (not Tiger Wo...)!!

Well you really baffled me with such a short turnabout!! I took around a month to complete my 18" KESL!

You have done a fabulous job with the 32" ones. Hope to fly the Cousins together some time!

Anwar,
E-Stratos was probably the first RC Foamie 'Flywing' made way back in 1960's. See the first pic in the below link
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=434265
Primitive, but a Flywing indeed.

I have already maidened the 18" KESL, the report I would append today.

The first one (Estratos) is not the kind of "wing" I was referring to.  The second one is a wing, but again it has not taken to the skies yet :)

You welcome anytime man!!
Baba, Don't you think it would be more appropriate if you have mounted all the hardware and the electronics on the bottom of the wing?
I don't exactly know, but I think it would also supplement for a more stable flight!

Hey Dorwin, i have done as per the plan, i also thought of putting all the electronic on the bottom, but its not a good idea. As whenever the wing lands it might damage the servo & other parts...

Servos as Skids! Are you kidding ? people mount servos with rubber goumets .. It wont be kind to give the servos shock on landing; the gears may dislocate from the mount holes.

You would definitely want to distinguish the top from the bottom for better visibility, using the color scheme (some lines at the bottom?)

Very nice build

Awesome paint job RC :salute: seriously looks like the B2, and yes! as anwar has said you better do something about your plane belly in terms of coloring so you can distinguish between the two sides, something like the landing strips! black and white!!

Overall! an amazing build, I think I should build one like this for me now :giggle:

RC,
The fairings for servos are too big and will add a significant drag.
You can use something better to make the fairings, and the advice is free. Go buy a Kinderjoy (the one which has egg shaped package) take out the choclate and toy and give it to a kid at home and you have two halves of an egg shaped plastic mouldings with a nice lip. Roughen the lips, make a suitable cut and stick the halves on your wing and you have a sleek, low profile fairing.
I came up with this idea while searching for a suitable piece to use on the fuse of my fuel planes where the servos installed out of the fuse were getting a fair bit of burnt fuel residue

Hey Dorwin,

The model is ready to fly, only need to do the pushrods. But will maiden this model next week, very busy.......................    :(

Title: Re: KESL 32" Wing
Post by: R C on October 08, 2010, 06:13:58 PM
The total weight of the airframe with the motor & canopy is 330 grams.
1) servo 2 x 9grams = 20 grams.
2) battary              = 90 grams.
3) Esc                   =  25 grams.
4} receiver             =  30 grams.
5} pushrod & horns  = 20 grams.
6) prop                  = 30 grams.
7) Extra weight       = 30 grams.
                TOTAL   =245 GRAMS.

So i guess the model weight will be less then 600 grams.

I am planning for the below mentioned power system.
Power system:
EMAX CF 2812 (RCD)
1000 mah, 3 cell ( I also have 2200 mah 3 cell, but the weight of the battery is 150 grams)
8x6 or 8x4 or 7x6 prop ( I will try with all these props )
30 amps esc.

 :)

FINALLY,

The model was maidened today, i was not able to fly for more then a 30 seconds as this was my first delta depron model.
It took 17 crashes & yet it survived.
One of my friend flew it for more then a minute & it was his first flight as he was into boat modelling.

May be next week i will try to fly it after practicing on sim.

Photos will follow

It was nice to see big brother of my mini KESL finally take it to the sky. Hope you are doing enough of Sim practice for the next weekend flying. wish you were on Mode-2. Would hook up my Rx next week and see.

And yes, some body knows how to get comprehensive accident insurance for R/C flyers ? Sarad's KESL nearly missed me on its long haul flight. It was really scary with a 8" prop spinning at its peak RPM!!
