I'm looking for a radio for my sky surfer . Because of the elections, most shops don't have radios since they are stuck with customs. RC dhamaka has a JR XG6 6 channel tx http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=89_110&products_id=1170&zenid=mfl7n088ps7kbkoft1q5uddar6 (http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=89_110&products_id=1170&zenid=mfl7n088ps7kbkoft1q5uddar6).
Should I wait n get the 9 channel turnigy 9x or get the JR 6 channel ?
The basic question is what could the extra 3 channels of the 9x be used for (vs the 6ch JR)?
The 6 channel JR will cost about 3 times as much as the turnigy.
That said - both radios will be enough to see you through to big models and helicopter.
JR has a better brand image and some snob value - if you are into that kind of thing.
The Turnigy can be loaded with alternate firmware - which will give amazing flexibility (search for er9x)
At your level - the 6 channel Vs 9 channel debate is purely academic.
If I have succeeded in confusing you even more - do the smart thing and go in for the Turnigy.
Then I guess will wait and it will be sometime till I get my hands on the Turnigy. :( Unless someone in the forum wants to sell . In that case please ping me .
Not into the snob value thing at all. If there is some obvious advantage only then would consider JR ..
You could try the Turnigy 9XR, and get the Frsky module. This should be available.
Ashim.
Yup that is available . Have ordered . Hoping to get it soon ;D
Dude check out quadkopters.com they have the Flysky fs-t6 and the th9x in stock

See! I'm not the only one to use that word without checking profiles!
I can vouch for Hobbysea. I have also purchased my 9XR from them, very reliable and a good Guy.

Haha, well the names on forums unfortunately dont hint at the gender :P . And dude is used universally nowadays. Anyway my apologies to the OP.
PS: Quadkopters.com is reliable i have purchased from them in the past
No offense taken. As far as I know the word dude is intended for a " stylish "person " . So thanks Ayu 8-)
Thanks Ashimda for the info . It's getting really exciting now my equipment is almost complete .:D hope to fly soon
P.S. : Tumi bangali ?
Sorry for sidetracking here, but I'd like to ask the senior members (particularly Gusty sir, Sandy sir, Iyyer sir, Saurabh sir... the gang) how often they feel the need for more than 5 channels. I understand that robots and quads may need more than 5 for telemetry, gains tuning and what not. But, apart from that, is it worth investing in a 6 or 9 channel radio?
I got a 5 ch Sanwa (against a 9 ch flysky) couple of years ago and I'll never regret that. My first 'chinese' radio (E-sky) is crap in every way compared to my Sanwa.
Edit:

Now doesn't that make me feel obtuse!
Yes ami bangali. ;D
I was just like you.... Hell I'm still like you, when ever I order something for this hobby, I start behaving like a little boy. Checking the tracking info every 15 min and cursing the the courier company. Get the Frsky module with telemetry receiver, you wont have to worry about range or glitches.
Ashim.
Glad to know that. Me too :)
Ya it's almost like the new watch u have to check the time again and again just to see how shiny it is ;D
Yup Ordered for the Frsky module also .
Have you ordered the receiver? If so which one? V8 or D8.
I've ordered the FrSky DF 2.4Ghz Combo Pack for JR w/ Module & RX (DJT)
@ Swapnil its always better to start with 7 Channel or more at the least. My favorite has been the Futaba 7C till date the simplicity and versatility is good. Apart from the basic four flaperon, gear and gain.
Sandy sir, firstly, thanks for your reply! :)
I'm well aware of the simplicity and versatility of the 7C. It's helped me time and again. I'll be forever grateful to RCI for my first computer radio. But as of this exact moment it just sits in my glass case looking pretty!
I don't often often use it for flying as I never really feel the need for more than 4 channels. I mostly use it with my hovercraft and robots as they need loads of channels. I'm thinking about converting it to 2.4G. But I don't want to part with the 'long antenna look'; makes it look cool!
Back to my unanswered question, how often do regular flyers feel the need for or actually use more than 5 channels on the field?
Flaperon and flaps is mix which is handy for all conventional fixed wings which needs at least six. So i would say always i have felt need for 7 channel. Foamy fighters which i fly are all exceptions which just need three. :) ;)
@Serial - 9XR = Turnigy 9x + er9X + backlight + better sticks + different ergonomics. Add on Frsky radio module with telemetry, and it morphs into a super radio.
@Swapnil - Sandy sir is correct - Flaps get so essential as speeds increase and wing areas decrease; The need for 6 channels arises quicker than expected

Dude has its origins in a term of insult. It was usually a derogatory epithet bestowed upon a city bred person who had no idea about how things worked on a farm. In ridicule, the other farm hands called him a 'Dude'.
That being said, Quadkopters.com is 100% reliable. I've bought my Turnigy 9x from Satya. Super sweet deal. Btw, I have a 6 Ch JR too, just not sure which model.
Indeed but the term has evolved since then and is a different animal altogether now ,similar to the evolution of man from ape . :p
Yup I ordered some stuff from Satya. He shipped it yesterday. Hope it arrives soon . :)
Cool trivia VC.. you dudes with super shudh angrezi make me feel like a bumpkin...
@girishsarwal
@serial crasher
And i thought Dudette meant
Udhar vapas karne ka samay aa gayaa.
Never realised that one might be a gentrified country bumpkin not knowing any slanguage :banghead:
Or what 9x, XG6, R2D2 etc mean.
Girish, are you below 5' 3" in height and do you weigh more than 100 kgs? If you do, then you qualify for the epithet 'bumpkin'.
You see, a bumpkin is defined as a "An awkward, unsophisticated person; a yokel" however, its origins lie in the old Dutch word "Bommekijn" meaning little barrel or the Belgian/Dutch (Flemish) word 'Boomken' which means 'shrub'. It brings to mind a short, squat person. I don't think you qualify. ;)
Yes, I do love this language and its etymology.
Aha... and I thought bumpkin had something to do with pumpkin... and now i have the dictionary open for understanding what exactly a yokel is... sir meri vocab table chair cat dog tak seemit hai... :giggle:
Serial I must apologize for crashing into your thread with pumpkins... :giggle:
God.... VC well.... its a lesson to all of us in English..... what the youngesters think as contemporary english and are proud of using.... generally has its origin in the Ghetos of USA and was used as a slang by bad mouthed people..... Well yes we all need to be more correct in using the language and must use correct words...
Good going VC
Lol @ Girish your Pumpkin analogy ;D reminds me of just one thing ...

Ketchup hota kaddu bharaa!

@serial crasher
I notice that people have started calling you 'Serial', as if that's your first name.
One would have thought the dimunitive for 'Serial Crasher' would be 'Crasher'...
Everyone here is on first name basis Mr KK.

What a delicious thread! Started innocuously enough on Radio Control, on to Kaddu Control, finally to Age Control
May the Horse be with all of you, in this the Year of Our Ford 2014 ;) ;)
Well..... I guess.... the Turnigy 9x or JR XG6..... god most be hunting for their identies now.... they seem to have got lost between some English, some Ketchup.... ad and yes KADDU indeed.... ha ha....
(S) C Aunt, did you get your radio then?
@Iyer sir - I used 'Serial' for I am sure the 'Crasher' will soon change to a 'Flyer' but 'Serial' will stay...
@VC - Thank you for the assurance. I did end up acquiring for myself a copy of Collins, Merriam Webster and Oxford.. Now I'm waiting for that one word which will make me buy a copy of Cambridge... ;)
QuoteSC - You are letting the cat out of the bag.
