To all my friends "HAPPY LANDINGS"....

I was wondering how 12 volt starters would perform with LIPOS?Huh?? They can normally take 12 to 14 volts so how many cell and mah would be advisable if we want to make our boxes lighter and substitute the lead acid battery. It would mean charging more often or after every weekend of flying. Any comments guys???

Many people do it on our field, and people have reported the same here also (mostly 3s, some 4s).  Some starters support the full 12v to 24v range (like the Sullivan ones), and people have hooked them up to 6s lipos to start the biggest of their aircrafts.

What starter do you have ? The primary decision is between 3s versus 4s lipo.

Also, low profile and higher C rating helps.  I just got me Align starter that takes a 3s lipo, and realized that the space  for the battery is just right for most lipos, and has trouble fitting my Outrage lipos that are slightly bigger.

I am using a 3s LiPO, 2200mAH rating with an old Sullivan starter. It is  more than adequate to start a 120 4C engine.
