It all started from something small

See the upped photos, I shifted the battery to the top of the frame and above it I set the board. Did this because when the Battery was below, when the quad landed in normal non-retracted form , the shafts werent evenly set when the quads weight was put on, so I had to clear out the rear of the frame.

I flew the board again to see any difference in the flight , didnt notice any.

Any comments on this ?

The battery just shifted to the positive axis so increase CG was negligible, and i dont think the board is heavy enough to affect the flight performance so much.

------------------------

On a side-note, I dd mention earlier that the KK doesn't handle winds too well, it was a bit breezy today but not much, so flew the quad as usual ( to show the retracts in action ) , and Suddenly it started swaying and oscillating exponentially ( i start to take it down now ) and it crashed to the ground .... the only good part was that I was lucky enough to use throttle-cut at the right time an the quad touched ( crashed ) the ground forming an 'X' .. Cheesy

yea, left side was buried in the ground till the part where the motor started ( ground was a bit wet )..

What i need to ask here is that why did it happen all of a sudden ? I never messed with PI values but now all of a sudden i cut my values to almost half to make the quad fly stable ( just cam back after another flight and the mad oscillation were still there, tuned the PI values and its stable now ) .

Any answers ?

Practice, and only Practice will make you perfect

insufficient physical damping is more often than not is the reason, try some cushion for the board Smiley she handles winds quite well, tuning entirely depends on you quad config and flying style and the environ you are flying in. here is my experiment with KK nearly 3 years ago, Did some crazy flying with it, including aerobatics, it found a new home, at jodhpur

ok will do that but what i dont get it is that why suddenly ? It never happened before, until i tuned it, almost every flight after that had the insane isssues.

Good cushion, some toroid, clean power supply should do it, bad motor bearing also can cause power supply fluctuation. you could take PS from the balancer port for the board, that should help too

Re:

Do you have to take the board every time to change batteries, it looks like that. What have you used to attach the board to frame. As gusty sir said use damping like gyro tape. This holds firmly and provides vibration damping only. Try flying with no self stablization and see where the issue it. It could also be in the self stablization gain settings, not in pid. Ideally i would recommend to mount the board as close to the middle of the y axis and batteries above or below it.   This gives maximum effect of pitch and roll to the sensors and enables the board to easily correct it.

no i just slide the battery underneath it Smiley

I actually changed the design back to the normal one everyone uses, but plan to correct  it and use it again ...

So you suggest that i let the board stay as near to the center ?? any Major issues if I rise it a bit like i did here ?

Re:

Biggest issue is that u will lose the lcd display in first crash, even worse the board could be damaged in transport. If you could see in rtf frames like dji flamewheels etc, most people tuck the fc between two boards that hold the arms. It becomes virtually industructable. Your board should be vibration free but should also be firmly attached. Use fevibond a rubber based glue to stick the board to the black foam box it comes with and use it as is. This avoids most vibrations and becomes shake free.
