I am a beginner and have a budget of around 6500 bucks ... and both these products land into that range.....
however being new to the hobby i am kind of confused.
This is my first radio , kindly suggest the better choice....

i would go for Futaba , why? if i want original rx, it is available if i need orange rx (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14300) for a low end foamie, it is available too, with turnigy, Rxs are cheap, likely to perform like one,(mine though has performed as good) with sanwa, cheap Rx ain't available as yet, for a newbie, for a long time to come 6ex is not a bad bet

You can get Turnigy 9x/9ch tx from hobbyking for around 4500-5000 Rs but if u go for Turnigy then be sure to buy few receivers bcoz they may be range problems vth dome of the receivers. If you go for Sanwa then u vl have a peace of mind.....

As Kartik informs that receiver will be available, @  :Rs:1600 For park flyer RXs to  :Rs:2500/- for a full range receiver, certainly Sanwa is a good option. And RCD people also have stock of some spares like antenna etc. so +1 here for Sanwa.

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Receiver price of Indian Rupees 1600 for park flyer is similar to Orange RX pricing, so that is not much of a consideration.  A bigger consideration (coming from a heli bigot) is that the SD-6G would be a better choice with heli capabilities for just a bit more money... and you end with a radio that can last for a long/life time.

My Rs0.02p worth....

The radio needs to be reliable. So go in for a branded one like Futaba/Spektrum/Sanwa etc.

Should I recommended in the same order ? naahhhh!!  But even I feel that if you have long term plans and have that little money , OEM , esp the more popular ones are best bet. Tomorrow you would buy a plane costlier thant the radio. You should have complete confidence in flying them. apart from functional reliability, reliable source of spares like Rx is also important. All OEM Radio have so many stores selling Rx and many flyers disposing them as well. The problem with cheap Chinese radio is that they don't have commitment from the manufacturer (WHO ??) to support the Radio. suddenly you would find that they stop producing the Radio all together!!! You have to gamble with 'Just working'  compatible Rx from other manufacture which may or may not fare 100% well.

I stretched while buying my Futaba 7C, but now I don't feel I would need more advanced radio for the coming 2 years.

Go OEM!

Though Spektrum has been exceedingly popuplar among Heli flyers, and most of Heli Aces like Tariq endorsing it, I wont like to discourage Spektrum fans with the recent move of JR to move away from DSM2 towards FHSS and DSMx (another gimmick) !!

I am a newbie , and with my present budget " Spektrum " is way beyond .....Tongue
I would start with a SANWA 5ch/6ch Tx for now , and as suggested it would suffice for a couple of years....
Really thankful to the forum members for helping me through..Cheesy:D

Even if the world moves to another frequency or technology, a person who has purchased a spektrum radio say DX6i will still be able to use it.  Its not that once the tech changes, no can use the radio. Over time, he/see will buy some more RX clones or original so would be able to enjoy a reliable radio for years to come.

In any case, I don't think there are any shop in this country where we can get the radio serviced and/or repaired. - so as far as I know, as long as the radio keeps functioning, keep using it.

So how does the news about JR's choice of technology effect current owner of a spektrum radio?

No problem means no problem, we buy a product for getting the job done, so if it gets the job done with complete satisfaction, we get complete utility, it's good enough.

But if Spektrum, it self calls it's radios to reprogram them. Huh?

Retreat, Hell!

I ordered a Airtronics SD5-G from RCD last wednesday for  Indian Rupees 6500. Should I have waited and opted for the Turningy 9X instead? Which one is better in terms of quality for a beginner?

I don't think one would regret either way.  One is higher value for money in terms of features/channels, the other is higher quality (as in hardware, software and RF link).  And since you asked for higher quality, your decision seems right Smiley

i second that, Turnigy plastic quality is not as good as Futaba 7C or Spektrum DX6i, when you pick it up in hand you can make out the quality of Turnigy, Throttle has no clicks either (VK tells me that there is a provision inside, need to explore that) right stick is very light too. Spektrum is no 1 in build quality, no doubt on that.
