For me, scratch building gives more satisfaction than rtf's. I love to see planes built by my own hands fly, but haven't yet managed to do so.

:iagree: Also when you do scratch you learn a lot & it increases you interest in this hobby.
Finally when you see what you have made is flying you will feel extremely happy. its a really wonderful feeling  ;D

friends when i started this hobby i used to feel the same but had some bad experiences with scratch built planes and finally i was suggested by my seniors to get a good kit or trainer ARF. which is perfect. because as a beginner with no  good experience of flying, building, different debugging and troubleshooting techniques you cannot make a good plane which flies good and from which you can learn to fly. SO according to me now I feel that as beginner to fly hi own scratch built plane results mostly in crashed and improper flight ,waste of time, money, energy, resources and moreover it lowers your self confidence when your model dosen't  fly well and crashes ..and soon one feels like leaving this  hobby. So in beginning have lots of patience follow the advice of senior experienced flyers . Get a good trainer plane .either electric or nitro. learn proper flying. then go build your own creations and fly them perfectly on your own.

well , akky i have assembled more than one and i am doing a scratch build which is a lot of fun .i thing beginners can buy a  rtf as their first rc plane like[easystar, axn floater on hobbyking or skyhawk] and can go on to raf building and can gradually go on to scratch building .

all the best

Its all about passion. I have tried 5 scratch builds with 1st three just crashing out. BECAUSE i did not have a mentor. Subsequently the 2 remaining are doing good and I am learning to fly as well as I have hooked on to a great buddy in the field.

I have asked for a number my friend and do you have any experiences of flying . and since how long have you been in this field , how many hours of experience you have in flying ?

I agree with you pankaj that one needs a mentor in order to improve his skills and point out the mistakes....plus flying in a good company is best and more fruitful experience than rather flying alone

dear friends,
a mentor is good only till a certain limit.he may teach taking off and landing but if any person needs to go on a budget flying it isn't possible but if you are a beginner and start off with a rtf and get how to land and take off by yourself , you'll be proud of yourself and get the sheer joy to fly. but if you  are not getting it there are chances that you may loose interest and that is the time to visit a mentor.you can also encourage your friends to join this hobby and ones you have got you can teach them also. {:)} ;D

all the best
