Title: Replacement for nitro engines
Post by: speedracer on April 22, 2010, 08:55:09 PM
I wanted to know about the types of engines ( diesel or petrol) that can be used to replace a .21 size nitro engine in a car.

Links will be highly appreciated.

Also if any one has any engine for sale that can be used in the place of .21 size nitro engine then please reply with sevral pics and details of the engine...

Regards

Sorry buddy you cannot really replace the .21 engine (3.5cc) with petrol. The smallest you can get in Petrol is 23cc (heard of a 21cc too). You need a bigger car.

You can try diesel conversion, What happened? Fed up with tuning or fuel cost?

Both tuning  and fuel cost are an issue also the maintainance is big point for moving towards other types of engines even if i run the engine for a minute i need 1/2 an hour just to empty the fuel tank then adding after run oil etc.Just got fed up of this but can you suggest the diesel engine to be used or how to convert it.

Thanks for your reply

Why do you need half an hour to empty tank? Use a fuel pump for 800Rs. A 150ml tank can be emptied in minutes. You needn't add after run oil , if you are going to use next week.

Use only for long term storage. Kill your engine by pinching fuel line to ensure no fuel in the cylinder. Fuel cost, is an concern, needs to come down to international prices soon.

Tuning is an art, will learn with experience. Maintainence is the fun part of this hobby. If you want less or no Maintainence, go for electric. Petrol also needs Maintainence.

@speedracer :All these so called difficulties which you have quoted is what makes this hobby worthwhile and satisfying. I can only agree to your point on the pricing of the fuel.

My view ...!

You can get high quality imported 16% nitro premixed fuel at 450Rs a litre and 25% at 500Rs. Why do you want to take chances with own fuel? You will end up spending more time on maintaining and tuning your engine with local fuel.

Local methanol and castor oil will be of a lower quality as compared to the premixed fuel.

Well the Best Replacement for a Nitro Engine would be convert your r/c car into an Electric!!!!

I did it to my 1:8 Scale Buggy and trust me, running on batteries with a high end motor + esc combo is as fast as a nitro.
Also it reduces all the tuning headache as well as the mess thats associated with fuel. I no longer need to carry fuel, booster or ne messy glow plugs, just need to get my lipos charged and balanced.

The cost of converting a 1:8 buggy to an electric ranges from 15-20k depending on what kind of system you buy.
The leading Motor+Esc combos offered are by brands such as:
Team Tekin
Team Novak
Castle Creations

A wide variety of other low end chinese systems are also available.

diesel no way...
because its atleast 5 kilos heavy with all other needies, atleast 45-50cc and a good one for atleast 40 000 rupees.
even petrol is expensicve and big, but smaller than diesel and easily available,
best one that i personally suggest is the one on  my HPI BAJA 5T i.e. FUELIE's 26cc gas engine.  amazing torque..really mindblowing, good speed (around 75 kmph). cost for around RS 30000. but can fit only on a 1/5 scale buggy/truggy/desert truck

i therefore advice you to go for a electric conversion.
go for a castle creation's mamba monster maxx 4600kV 550 motor
or a BLUR system
both these are used as stock electronics on Traxxas E-revo BL link edtion and HPI savage flux HP 2.4ghz
both cost around 15000 + shipping from US and Custom  duty

U can use a 6S(two 3S) Lipo (22.2V) on them, and clock speed of upto 130kmph
but better to use a 4s(two 2S) as the drive shaft will not be able to handle that much power

Trst me.both these systems will let your car perform better than a NITRo

i mean Castle Creation's Mamba Monster Maxx 4600kV 550 size motor + esc combo, and the cost reffered in 4th paragraph is for these brushless combos
