Title: Futuristic innovations from an Indian college dropout!
Post by: dinil on July 18, 2010, 07:54:22 PM
You can zoom, at a maximum speed of 120 kmph, in his car that runs on compressed air!

You can also ride a cycle without pedalling or drive a solar-gas hybrid car...all you have to do is visit a small garage in Assam.

Kanak Gogoi, a modest innovator who has studied only up to class X, has spent years making these futuristic vehicles.

A low-cost flying machine, which can carry people, is Gogoi's dream now. The self-taught innovator is confident that it won't be long before this dream too comes true.

As a boy, he had to bunk classes and go into hiding to build on his innovative ideas. His first innovation was an air gun which he made at the age of 10. The trigger for this serial innovator was a real gun at his uncle's place. The gun fascinated him. But when he tried to hold it one day, he was thrashed soundly. So he made up his mind to make a gun and, did it.

The zeal to innovate grew as he went on to develop a range of exceptional vehicles -- a 'gravity-operated' cycle, Trygo X (a three-wheeler), Kanso hybrid car, a compressed air car and a metal speed breaker that can produce electricity

It is a sign of our times that in trying to meet this gentleman for the last few years - neither have I put in a 100% effort, nor have I come across anyone who knows where he stays. I believe he stays in Guwahati, within a 8Km radius from my residence!

Sir, I am very particular about what I write, I refrain from making off the cuff remarks - I've been trying that number for many days - +91 99547 08112 - it doesn't exist.

http://assamnet.org/pipermail/assam_assamnet.org/2009-February/022035.html

Will try to contact him on this new number too and report as and when I establish contact.

Chalk up one more for the Forum. Had it not been for Dinil and Anwar Sahab, I wouldn't  have established contact with this great innovator today. Extreme accommodative humility of the gentleman, he invited me over right now ( 10:46pm)! Have promised to visit him tomorrow morning - will keep you all posted.

This gentleman is humility personified. It is a real pity that he was born in India where his genius has not (and probably will never be) been recognised. He spoke of his efforts and was very open and candid about his future plans. Frustrations arising out of red tapism and bureaucracy and people trying to wrangle his secrets for free. He made no bones about his rudimentary knowledge of theory "That is what makes my experiments so fascinating and challenging - till the end I am not sure whether they will work or not!" It was a once in a lifetime experience to meet such a genius. He is youthful, full of life and has the "18 till I die" spirit (I have heard the same being said about another person, but comparing the two of them would be like comparing chalk and cheese!).

He completely floored me by saying, "The only difference between you and me is that I am mad and you are half mad."

Dinil, I am very grateful to you for having led me to him. I have found an inspiration, motivator and guide for myself. The phrase 'Thank you' seems so inadequate under these circumstances.

I have never been a very humble person in my life, however I must say, I've  learnt a fair bit about humility today.

Do not miss the 150 CC Aero Engines with 27 X 10 wooden props. They are being used for 'new experiment'..........they are supposed to supply a 30Kg thrust!

Or much better off a visa to some where out of here!! Wonder why the "college dropout" tag was necessary, education and innovation are totally separate.

Very true tg sir. Some people are just made different. They do not fit into the "normal" category as we indians see it.We just care about marks.Being a student,I just hate this.I feel that I have way more knowledge than the guy who gets a first rank in school. ;D He gets close to full marks in english but his english is horrible.WE just see numbers and nothing else. So, the "born in the wrong country" comes up.

Too true... None of my other skills count in school... I don't know about college, but admission in school does not depend AT ALL on how smart you are but on your mugging skills...  :P They never see your sports or other achievements...

Very rightly said.Just the type of person I wanted.Probably, only my English, physics, chemistry and biology teachers appreciate my skills.

The muggers keep getting selected.Like at school in our group elections, the mugger of our class was encouraged to stand for quiz leader, but I won!!

wherever i went along wid some of my like minded friends we all have been called as weirds who don't study :giggle: :giggle:
when people hear that i am am engg. student they say concentrate on studies leave all these since they don't have a future
i won't be leaving studies though ;)
i feel in peace on hearing these stories about those some weirdo category people in wrong place, in wrong time, in the wrong way ,
much similar to me.  ;D  {:)}

similar to the above one was a story i think from bihar where a boy built a circuit to charge a mobile phone from eletricity produced from a dynamo.!  >:D

thanks VC sir without you i wouldn't have known.!

Being 'weird' is just another way of doing it, another way of seeing things that others don't yet understand....................

Wow! I actually made up that line spontaneously. I am a genius too............. :giggle: ;D

I think Akky has a good take on this matter - read his line "I am not weird, instead I am a little different......." that just about sums it up.

I had the same thing in my mind, what is Mr. Gogoi doing with all those 110 (or there about) cc DL/DLE/Clone petrol engines? Looks like he has another ace up his sleeve.
How does he manage to land in India those many engines? Does he get them through post/courier etc or is there some other route for procuring these

i would like to consider this person a way much higher to me and one day i would like to work with him. as gandhar said school just concentrates on marks and not on innovations. my father is in engineering line and he is my only morale booster .
the one thing that he taught me is that true  inventions are those which somehow make our life easier and simpler, which this man is doing for the last few years.
i am just a miniature version of this person .
four years from now after attaining b.tech i will and for sure would meet him and work with him. till than if anybody can get his email address so that i can discuss some new ideas with him or i can post them here.
being an innovator like him is not an easy job the only reason for me to get my degree is that after graduation i can get a job and raise funds for the projects that i have in mind.
also it would help me ito see those projects from another prospective.
so gandhar and all those half mad soon to be engineers like me we can have a good discussion of our ideas here and i think some of the experienced members here would also be interested in giving up some good advice.
Ps : please someone get his email address or invite him here for some discussion.

I will be meeting this gentleman soon and pass on all your messages to him. If he permits me, I will let you have his number Speedracer.

Flyingboxcar, I will also find out about his procurement channels for the engines. I believe he got them in for designing a Helicopter (Gyrocopter) that can carry a person. I am to meet him next week to see this machine in operation.
