Title: BIPLANE - Golden Oldie 20 (Electric)
Post by: R C on March 28, 2014, 10:02:27 PM
Hi All,
I have started with a Biplane build, below are the details.
The plan what I have is for an Engine powered model, but I will use an electric setup. Hence made some changes in motor mount so that I can use the motor I have for this model.

Model Name:  Golden Oldie 20 (Electric)
Plan: http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=2040 (http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=2040)
Length: 35 Inch
Wingspan: 39 Inch
Wing Chord: 7.5 Inch

Used 2mm Ply, 2mm Balsa, 3mm Balsa and 4mm Balsa for construction, I have got the wing ribs CNC cut.
Planning to use 900kv motor which will roll 12 or 13 inch prop and 40Amp ESC.

Thanks

Always good to see a scratch builder.
Especially one who knows outerzone.
With a 60a ESC, i presume you expect to use about 600-700 watts.
Thats nearly 1hp.
Doubt if you will need that for a 40" bipe.
What is the projected weight?
My INDORE BIPE flies easily at 32w per pound.
So if your bipe weighs say 1kg, 150watts will be adequate...
Best of luck.

@ Iyer Sir - the weight will be around 1kg and the motor i have for this model will draw Max 35 Amp, by mistake i typed 60 amps.  ;D

400w still too much. Half throttle will be enough!

Thanks Iyer Sir,
Let me see the exact weight once i complete the model and then will see which setup can be used.

@r c sir,
Beautiful. Especially fuselage front top deck.
Hope you will do a white tissue and clear dope finish.
 :hatsoff:

Thanks Iyer Sir   :)

Covering with tissue and clear dope will need some time and patience, i get very less time for aeromodelling due to my work schedule. Hence i am planning to cover it with monokote, have some monokote left with me which i will use.

White covering for fuse and Blue (Transparent) for wing & tail section OR red covering for Fuse and white for the wing and tail section.

Beautiful I am following.  {:)} {:)}

Wing ribs looks laser cut in comparison to other parts? It was good idea to do that if it is so.

But if it was hand cut man hats off to you. Some precision cut.

Thanks a lot Sanjay sir and Sundaram sir.
Yes - the ribs are laser cut, it saves lot of time.
Too many ribs to cut for this model..    ;-)

@sanjayrai55 sir
@VC sir
@Sundaram sir
@umayash1 sir
Try to persuade him to do a clear tissue and clear dope finish.
Will be worth the effort.

Iyer Sir, I can understand what you mean. The model is evolving to be a real beauty and the clear Tissue and clear Dope is going to do full justice to it and give it a pristine look. But no compulsion or pressure on "R C". he would choose it automatically if he was comfortable with it and resources available.

@ R C,
Sir,
Lovely. Both build and flying, incl 45degree knife edge...
In the video, just when I was about to say 'She'll do a large slow loop', you did exactly that!
It's time to amend your profile from 'beginner' to 'expert' ;D
Since you already have a Tiger Moth fin/rudder, some day when you get the mood, you could replace the Stick style wingtips and stab/elevator, so that it looks like this:

Regards.

have found a good set of plan from Outerzone for a 41 Inch Fokker triplane, planning to start the build next month  ;D ;D
Will keep you all posted.

Thanks again  :)
