Title: Building a F-22 Raptor from
Post by: viraj on April 11, 2011, 01:00:51 AM
HI Guys

After making and and crash landing my Sport Trainer I am building a F-22 Raptor with 28" WS now using 5mm Bio foam purchased from Venus Stationery, Pune @ 80 rs per sheet.

Plans downloaded from http://rc.tomhe.net

Below mentioned are the details of it

1) 2200 KV Motor (Thanks to Pankaj Verma to provide me the Motor at the right time)  ;D

2) 30A Mystery ESC

3) 6 x 4 Prop

4) 11.1 V Li-po

5) 2 Nos 9g servos

& Carbon Spar to strengthen the plane

Have already done with with the cutting.

Will post the pics soon

Wait for more to come as I progress. :)

Please do give suggestion to make this build better

Regards

if you could find try using Fevicol Decoration glue, it is rubber based glue, just like Fevibond but does not eat foam!!!!

one more thing as i can see ur undercarriage height is very less, so if u do belly landing then there are chances that prop may brush ground and that may eventually damage ur motor mount...

keep posting your progress

all the best!!

Fevicol Decoration glue work preety good, tried it after pasting my f-22 with hot glue gun Myself.

if u chk their videos, u will see those people are flying/landing mostly on grass, but in my case i couldnt find grass land through out the yr, and flown mostly on dryland, except for winter season. so, for me, landing has been a big issue for these foamies....

so what i do is, use 3 pieces of 2-3mm CF rod and stick it under the plane like landing gear, so that it will land on those rods and maintain height, that avoids prop touching ground. check 1st pic

in my Latest 23" Eurofighter i increased height of vertical walls and used 8mm biofoam and cover it with fiber tape, so that it can do belly landing.. this really helps a lot, fiber tape avoid any damage to contact surface as well. this make ur plane look little out of proportion but saves ur plane

thanks ashJR7202 .. ur post was really a help..

Will follow the same recipe.. By the way i did foolish thing yesterday.. Bought a Canned spray paint to colour my plane..

So I spayed it all over the plane and left it to dry.. when i came back and saw.. the paint had eaten almost half of the foam..

So now will have to start again now  :(

what!!!!!!   :giggle: :o :o

always keep in mind, when ever ur trying anything new, 1st try it on sample material and once ur sure then only use it on the actual model!!!!!!!

there is flying wing post from Vector (Amar), where he has used can spray, and given specific instructions on how to use those spray... while doing anything, if ur not aware of the results, then do search post, get some info, discuss and then proceed, other wise results will be disaster  :banghead: :banghead:

foam is very fragile so need to be handled carefully.....

anyways, ur in a hobby and u hav to always keep ur spirit high!!!! get ready for ur next model.......

I am a beginner too.

I started flying with multiplex easystar and now flying a slow stick.

Since you are a beginner, may i suggest you to build a slow flyer (easy to fly ) plane first instead of F22...this is just a suggestion.....till you improve your control/orientation/flying skills.

I have started building a Blubaby 33 inch and is now almost complete.

This will give me confidence of building a plane and also flying.

F22 is not considered a beginner plane and chances of crashing it on first few flights are more.....again just my personal oinion.

Anyways, you are welcome to join us at baner field where experts like Prady, Amar etc may help you.

cheers!

I know bokilap I should try with some easy planes first..

That is why I made Sports Trainer.. It is a very stable plane and easy to fly as well.. now it is crashed but will repair it by this sunday and will fly it again.. will surely try to come this sunday and take experts tips from there..

Making F-22 as well now.. but will only fly once I am confident enough after flying sport trainer

Thanks again

Hi guys

posting after a long time ..but If  can read in my previous post. i tried to color my 5m f-22 using a spray can and it ate the entire foam.. cudnt post any pics of as I cudnt find anything ..  :'(

so to shop again and bought biofoam .. but this time its 8mm.. as cudn't get 5mm sheet .. so the difficulty was to get the cuts in 8 mm sizes now instead of 6mm as i downloaded the plan from (6mm fly rc tomhe.net)

after drawing the entire plan on the foam i had to make the cuts of 8mm which i did using scale .. 1mm each side.. .. and tried fixing the parts.. Its a perfect match..

Will post pics by evening.. and latest updates in that ..

I have 2 servos attached to tailerons.. thats it .. as i have seen in videos it works both ways up down and left right ..

just need know how to do this..

you dont need the Y cable then. you'll have to switch on elevon mix on your radio. i dont know which one you have.. but on a futaba you can connect one servo on channel 1 and other on channel 2 and just switch on "ELVN" on your radio in programming mode.
