Title: FT Spitfire from available plans
Post by: sanjayrai55 on November 08, 2013, 06:18:01 PM
Plans & Instructional video here: http://forum.flitetest.com/showthread.php?4288-FT-Spitfire-Build&highlight=foamboard+weight

A word of caution - The foamboard I got is at least 1.5 times the weight of the foamboard used by the FT team. So the model worked out very heavy. The earlier two builds were from biofoam, and they were lighter than the FT versions.

 Good starting

Build is pretty straightforward if you've built a few FT foamies

No scale colours here, went for visibility and orientation. Recently bought a bunch of coloured tape, so used it :D

Abhay, it is 42"span, so I guess 1/10th scale....not too sure though

Very nice build sir! {:)} {:)} {:)}
Even mine was too heavy , so i removed one side paper from depron so it almost came to FT Spitfire weight.
are those retractable LG sir?

Nice build.

Sir where did you get those landing gears?

The darn model worked out massively heavy, and tail heavy to boot  :banghead:

Switched from a 2826-1400 KV to a 2836-1400 KV, extended the nose, and gave down and right thrust

Made a custom smaller power pod

In case anyone is interested, I used this cheap L/G I had got from HK about a year ago. Was lying around gathering dust.

I don't think it can take a rough landing :(

Fitted up now. Praveen, next time I'll peel off one side of the paper. Thought about it, but was too difficult in the built state.

Flies real good. Decent glide too

It's a pleasure to fly a fast, sporty low-winger. Very tight loops and rolls too. No self-correction after turns, the pilot has to re-level.

Currently building the low wing FT Racer. Next plan is the twin motor low winger Cruiser. Waiting on some HK parts (which are taking forever)

After that.......?? ;D ;D

VC sir, I did not do that because I had a doubt as to it's flying capability. In any case, the Supermarine camouflage is terrible for RC; sky colour below, green camo on top. I used that in a Guillows model. The Battle of Britain scheme is a little better from that viewpoint.

I'm cracking the Depron mysteries; figuring out how to live with the grams per square inch, and, one day, I promise, I will make that Spit in camo  ;) ;) 8) 8)

Sir Awesome build just can't stop admiring it.
You are building a lot of ft planes so why not go for the latest disney planes movie based planes The ft duster or the FT stinger

How is the foam working out? Any wrinkling or cracks? Do the wings flex when flying fast?

Title: Re: FT Spitfire from available plans
Post by: sanjayrai55 on November 14, 2013, 08:13:44 PM
Not that I've noticed. With biofoam, I did have the Nutball wing fold up while doing aerobatics, but after repair/reinforcement it's fine. The Spit is solid.....and heavy, being made from the laminated foamboard

Ahhh Nitesh, once you start, you'll reach there and move ahead in no time. Just start - that's the key. Later you'll move into the 1th/12th, Board years; no time then
