Title: Funjet ultra maiden
Post by: Guru-smg on January 13, 2014, 10:42:56 PM
Maidened Funjet ultra in the evening. Finished building at 5.30pm and headed off to field ... ( couldn’t suppress the urge and wait till morning  ;D ).

Though it was little difficult to keep up with orientation as it was getting dark..enjoyed the speed and sound !!. My friend Vinay who was shooting video, had to struggle to keep the model with in frame  :).

Thanks madaquif and good luck...

But take care to select a beginner model to learn flying ( has been discussed by seniors ).
This certainly not the one to start off !!

How do you fly this thing??..i just graduated from Sky surfer and have a funjet ready to be build and maidened this weekend..do you think I can pull this off without a crash? ..iam planning to use DR on throttle

Hi devangflyer, Thanks..

Model costs Rs. 6499 at RCDhamaka right now. Accessaries like..motor, Esc, Battery, servos, prop+adaptor, connectors, servo extn, medium thick CA...Rs.5000 approx, plus shipping.

cost of accessaries and shipping cost depend on brand and source..
Approximately it can cost you around Rs.11500 plus shipping ( add tax/customs duty  if applicable )

@ muradshak..

You will have to work little harder to fly a funjet soon after skysurfer. As a beginner plane, skysurfer forgives for your wrong inputs to some extent, where as funjet being delta wing.. little unstable & unexpected surprises..

1). Practice extensively on simulator
2). Tape bottom of the wings with dark coloured ( like red ) packing tape so that you won't loose orientation! use duct tape or fibre
tape to tape the fuse belly to protect from scratches during landing.
3). Balance CG so that it is little nose heavy.
4). Little up elevator trim by 2-3 notches preferred.
5). Launch the model into the wind & take care while tossing the model as the rotating prop could easily nick yourfingers/hand.
Some prefer to hand launch themselves ( like i do, but you will have to be quick to get your hand back on theTx stick )...
some prefer others to launch for them.

I found this video on hand launching very informative..each point is important  :)..

Search and you get lots of them...

For maiden... best option would be to ask experienced/senior flier to test fly and trim the model. slowly you can take over.
However , i request experts/seniors to throw some light on this.

Goodluck muradshak .. happy landings

Hai,iam having trouble with the motor..at higher rpm the motor starts to vibrate badly..what could be the problem?I have just used  2 screws to secure the motor to the mount

@muradshak, even i could able to secure two screws only to motor mount.. other two holes wouldn't match ! But didnot notice vibrations.
Have you tried using metal washer and allen screw ? I have replaced stock screws used to secure mount to fuse, with allen screw/bolt.

Post a video so that seniors/experts can give some solution.

Better option would be to upgrade plastic motor mount to metal one,

Metal motor mount for funjet ultra..

Am also thinking on this..but costs approx. 16 dollers plus shipping  8-).
Not sure wether available locally.

I havent used washer..i think the problem is with the prop adapter..when I bench tested it with prop it was working..maybe there is a slight bend with the adapter..that causes it to wobble at higher rpm..maybe ill post a video

I personally felt  JY prop adapter better than JJ prop adapter for this. Was not happy When i first fixed prop with JJ adapter, which has one grub screw to tighten on to motor shaft..but things got better when changed to JY type which squeezes from all sides when tightened.

Hi Guru-smg,

I need some advise on Funjet Ultra.

I fly helis. Currently fly a Trex Dominator 450L 6S.
I can do basic sport flying on my 450L - circuits, figure 8s, hovering in all orientations (upright). Take off, land and fly in Idle up mode.

I wish to start flying planes, have no experience flying RC planes yet.

Do you think I could fly this plane ?

Appreciate your advice

Thanks

P.S. - watched your flight vids and liked them ! Especially the way you have tamed it in vid 1 for a slow circuit and then unleashed all the power in no.3 !
