Title: Help! My motor does not work properly!
Post by: sujak on August 31, 2020, 09:49:15 AM
I have a 2200kv motor, a 30amp ESC and a Fs i6 remote. When i increase the motor spins for a bit and stops and restarts. I have checked the connection and have no idea how to fix it. Help is reaquired!

I think the problem is with ESC. It might be having some brown outs while increasing throttle. Please post pictures of motor and ESC which would help us know about ESC a little more.

Those ESCs have very bad reputation in terms of quality as well as reliability. I recommend you to change the ESC.
If you are using unbranded motors even they are not good and recommend you to buy some branded ones like emax, sunnysky, DYS, racerstar etc.

If you want to do a project that has to last long do not use non-branded ESC and motos.

Did you try with a different ESC/Motor combination to isolate the problem?

@sujak,
Welcome to RCI.

You probably have the generic 2212 motor and 30a Esc.
Do you have only one set, or four?

If you have another motor and Esc,
Try replacing the motor in your problem set.
If the replacement motor works, the Esc in the problem set is ok.
If it doesn’t, the Esc is the problem.

If you don’t have extra motor/esc, then we have to do something else.

Can you post a short video showing the problem with and without the prop?

Incidentally, the Esc has to be CALIBRATED.
I.E, it has to learn the high and low throttle positions on your Tx.

If there is no manual for your Esc, then here’s the usual method.

Switch on Tx and move throttle stick to full.
Connect Esc to motor and Rx
Connect batteryto Rx
You should hear a long beep (indicating Esc has understood full throttle position)

Pull throttle stick to idle.
You should hear another long beep (indicating Esc has understood idle throttle position)

Switch off Rx and then Tx

Switch on Tx with throttle stick in idle position
Switch on Rx.

You should hear a tone followed by as many beeps as there are cells in the lipo.
2 beeps for 2s, 3 beeps for 3s.

If you reachthis stage successfully, your motor will most probably run ok.

If not, we’ll do more troubleshooting tomorrow

Best of luck and sleep well.

Regards
Iyer.

Hi guys i bought a different ESC and the problem still remains. I clibrated my esc and still the problem is there. I have noticed in my controller that my battery charge decreases everytime increase throttle ans when my battery is show as empty, the motor stops.  I think the battery is not working but i am not sure. I am using a generic 11.1v 500mah battery

Hi Sujak,

I think that battery is too low a capacity but should be okay for testing motor with out propeller and do you have a separate servo tester to check where the issue is.

Did you change any timing settings in ESC while calibration?. The esc you are using has inbuild 5v bec so if possible the setup in the picture

hi guys i am planning to buy this battery-https://www.lazada.com.my/products/74v-1400mah-t-plug-lipo-battery-wltoys-bravo-pro-a959b-a969b-a979b-rc-car-buggy-truck-toy-toys-i341401168-s867030769.html?spm=a2o4k.searchlist.list.2.27ce133cn2eyRU&search=1

But i am not sure if it will work. I will attach a 2200kv motor and esc and Rx and servos. Do you think this battery can provide enough power?

@sujak,

1) What's the discharge rate (Marked as 'C rating') of the battery? How old the battery is?

2) The current draw at no load for this motor is around  0.5A (at 10V). If you have have a 12V adapter, you may use that to test instead of the battery.(Do not put the propeller on, the current draw will increase and may damage the adapter)
