Title: Samurai - My Extra 300 Spad.
Post by: VC on August 25, 2011, 12:02:12 AM
I just had to give her a Japanese name, don't ask me why.

Materials : 3 mm coro, Bicycle spokes, CF 2mm rod for wing and tail plane reinforcement, Tape Hinges (next time will not cut coro flutes all the way - this will result in better hinges), Kebab Skewer for rudder and elevator push rods.

Adhesives : Hot Glue, Fevitite Rapid (5 min Epoxy) and Quicktite (standard epoxy), Flex Kwik CA (Amazing product @Rs.40/- only).

Turnigy Bell motor, Mystery Blue 30 A ESC, 9 gm servo X 3, 7 X 5 prop + prop saver, 3S 1000mAH battery.

Radio : 4 Ch HK V2.

Motor mount ply, later changed to masonite board (reinforced fibre - the kind that domestic switchboards are made from).

Stickers from HK and a few from the net.

Already crashed her twice but she can take a lot of punishment. I love this design.

Please don't ask me for the videos, that will be embarrassing  :giggle:. Let Sandy / Gusty fly her properly and then I will post the videos.

Definitely NOT the first plane for a beginner!

hi VC
you realy want a 'high' wing or slow flyer for first plane. low wings are harder to fly because all weight above the wing.
mine is a slower type biplane.........hopefully it will fly.......got props todat and set upper wing onto fuse.
regards
don

hi VC.
I think I am too used to building boats ;)
I am trying to make the plane same as a boat..............too much like a scale model....I think I will have to start again using the same method you are and build a 'profile' fuse........I will see how this one is on taxi test and try it on a pole 'like control line models' to see if it will actually take off :) :) :)
your spad is looking good  :) :)   .............have you a vid of it flying?
regards
don

Don, now that is a rather sadistic comment/query ;). Why would you want to see me wrecking this baby on video?

Anyway, I was too busy crashing her to focus a camera. :giggle:

VC,

Does a lower KV (1000?) with larger prop (10x4.7) improves it's flight? Though I am a novice, i am just asking.

Another information, rohit used 2 servo in aileron and used mix with his sanwa 8Ch Tx. Got excelent landing behaviour.

Thanks

VC bhaiya you are the RC Hero for me and for many others here. Wish I could fly with you and get to see all the beautiful models that you have built and learn from you the art of scratch building. Will surely invite you in our college sp4mm3r. Hopefully you will come.

Most Heroes are non performers in real life! If invited, I would love to be there.

I am not exhibiting false humility here. While I may have built several models in my lifetime, I still have a lot to learn from all about actual flying. When it comes to RC flying, I am still way below average.

If you have already made the Avispad and flown it successfully, go right ahead and make this. No problemo!

Making this model is the easiest thing, flying it is a different matter. However, someone like Rohit makes it all seem easy. Please consult him for invaluable tips.

Hey ritz, do you have confidence while flying in the sim if not practice flying this model in the sim, until you have full control over it, after which go down to a big flying field on an ideal day and give it a launch. Just believe in yourself, if you have mastered the sim you can surely fly the real one.

And VC sir is being way to modest!!!.
