HI ALL, I AM BUILDING A SCALED VERSION OF TWIN ENGINE ANTONOV AN32 AIRCRAFT WITH FOLLOWING SPECS:
Estimated AUW is around 3000gm including electronics
Wingspan is 1650mm
length is 1350mm
wing area is 0.249176 sq meter
Wing airfoil is Clark Y and incidence angle is positive 3 degrees
Required flight style is scale cruise
I AM STUCK WITH POWER COMBO SELECTION!
HOW MUCH TOTAL THRUST I WOULD NEED TO FLY IT?
WHICH MOTOR WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR THAT PURPOSE WITH REQUIRED THRUST.
I AM PLANNING TO USE A MAXIMUM 10 INCH PROPELLER.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
@SohelKhan,
First post in five years?!
I'll respond in imperial units as that's easier for me.
Your wing is about 66" span, 6" chord, 2.75 sqft area, right?
So aspect ratio is 11, much higher than around 6 for a typical RC model of this span.
(I assume it is RC, not control line!)
At such aspect ratio, the bending load on the wing will be significant.
Your carbon spars are probably adequate, but the wing construction seems flimsy.
I would have gone for full 1/16" balsa sheeting, top and bottom.
Anyway, please do a load test of at least 4g.
Why is the estimated weight so high? 3kg?
At this AUW, the wing loading will be about 38oz/sqft.
That's 60% higher than desirable (around 24oz/sqft)
I see no provision for ailerons. Are you planning on using only rudder, elevator and throttle? I fear that without ailerons it would be unflyable.
If you are with me so far, I'll proceed with estimating the power requirement.
Best wishes for your project. Lovely fuselage!
Iyer.
Here's a note of caution.
At 3kg AUW, the cubic wing loading will be about 24.
To put this into perspective, here are some typical CWL values (in oz/cft^1.5):
Slow flyers and gliders ~4
Trainers ~6
Aerobatic ~9
Scale ~12
Warbirds and racers 15+
Hi Mr Sohel, I hope you do succed, as it seems from your profile that you are from Jorhat, where there is always a chance of getting a glimplse of the AN32 in the sky.
