Helis are quite picky about balancing, which in turn is derived from the use of correct parts. Even a bent bar can cause significant instability, so if you substituted with something of wrong length, weight etc... chances are that you will run into trouble.
These toy grade helis are usually only good till the first crash, after that you suffer for lack of parts, and the stability is gone. Plus, it is very hard to troubleshoot this remotely (especially on a question like "or have I damaged something else", which can only be answered by YOU
)
I would suggest meeting up with some local heli fliers, and let them take a look at this. Moving to a hobby grade heli is also a must, if you are serious about this hobby for the long term.
