Title: Sudden loss of power and crash..
Post by: nabam on November 18, 2013, 12:43:57 AM
Dear Heli experts.
In my weekend flying today,i suddenly lost power and crashed my trex 450.Luckily no major damages, just a stripped gear.I think it was due to the lipos suddenly loosing power. The lipos are from wolfpack 2800 mahs from rcbazaar.Any idea why it happens... :banghead:

Looks like Motor or Esc issue . Just check that everything runs smooth .And keep noting the EsC/motor temperature . Odd but check that does the motor smells like burning ? Could be batteries too !
Also crosscheck your ESC timimg and cutoff settings .

Battery, esc n motor.

Do a bench test after removing main blades.

Reprogram the align esc , loose solder joint (dry joint)

How old is d battery? How many cycles on the batt.? Ir?

same thing happened to me, after 1.5 min of sports flight their was sudden blackout but still controls to cyclic were their. And same ,Heli was powered by rcb wolfpack 2.2 20c lipo. Its was due to resetting of esc in the mid of flight. This can be due to bad soldered connectors on the lipo or the esc. Or might be one of your lipo cell is faulty. Did you checked your lipo voltages after the crash. Mine was more than 80% still remaining. What i did was replaced the old bullet connectors, re-soldered the dean at esc, reprogrammed the esc to low voltage cutoff, low timing.

Examine the motor power cables. FLy with a different lipo........

Lipo suddenly cannot loose power, either you have a faulty esc or motor or esc with improper settings. But yes if your lipo has a faulty cell, it can pretty much confuse your esc , and reset itself.

Finally concluded with faulty lipo from rcb, now m using it on my hawk sky without any esc resetting.

It seems to be an LVC issue (low voltage cut) its a feature of Align Esc if that's what you are using it will cut power to the motor so just make sure that you attach the low voltage beeper to your battery while in flight.

Take care..crashes are part n parcel of this hobby you will learn more about your heli each time you rebuild it.

Had around 15 cycles on it.

As others pointed out, the problem points out more towards the esc. Reprogram the esc especially for the LVC value.

Also, check the solder joints on both esc n battery. A dry solder will look firmly attached inside the heat shrink. I had the same problem once in which motor lost the power.

Replaced the striped gears but the esc isn't initialising after the battery is hooked.. I mean I have full control on the swash movements, cyclic and pitch but no respone to throttle input.. as if iam on throttle hold... Has the esc reset or something. Do i need to reprogram it.

Well the sound is supposed to come out via Motor . Your motor-esc connectors good ?
Other people with same issues changed the motor and enjoyed.

check resistance across motor terminals.

The motor is fine. The esc had malfunctioned. Replaced it and the heli flies awesome. Thanks.  :hatsoff:
