Title: Walkera 1#A fails to lift off
Post by: dheerajjuneja on April 29, 2012, 01:37:10 AM
Hi,

Am very new to this Hobby, this is my first hobby grade heli (bought it used from this forum only a couple of days back).

Practiced a lot on SIM and after about a week or 10 days of having this Heli kept in safe housing, tried to put it to test and see how it feels to make it light on skids.

Disconnected the motor, checked the CG and Balance, checked the servo movements, pitch seems to increase when throttle stick is moved.

Now after connecting the battery, the blades spin, they spin quite a bit, but even at 100% throttle the Heli does not even gets light on the skids, forget about taking off. As per the manual, it should lift off at around 55% throttle.

Could it be the battery week issue? But i see the blades moving at a very high speed though.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update:
I was ordering a new battery from HK, the ESC on this heli is a brushless 20A, would this product be compatible on 1#a:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/%5F%5F10940%5F%5FTurnigy%5FSuper%5FBrain%5F20A%5FBrushless%5FESC.html

So i can just order and keep it for later use?

Could you have stripped a servo and hence not getting any positive pitch?
Could the settings on your radio have been changed?

Hi,

How can i check what would have happened?

I mean, i can see the servo's moving properly, and also the pitch of the blades seems to change quite a bit with throttle movement on the transmitter.

I am a total newbie to handling/understanding whats going on, if you can help me identify what would have happened?

make sure that themain blades are moving in clock wise direction when looking from the top of the heli. If they are not moving in the right direction then you need to swap any 2 wires of the motor with the ESC. to make it spin in the right direction.

Today morning tried again and the blades wont even spin :(

What to do/check?

Have ordered a pair of batteries and charger from HK, i think i would only need to wait.

Strange though, it was spinning yesterday and today, just nothing.

The servos respond, gyro is making its moves. Weird.

Do a systematic check. Deal with the batteries first and then go on to other things.
Charge the batteries and check the voltage. Make sure that your batteries are charged properly. If both of them do not show the required voltage, then in all probability your charger is the culprit. Chances of killing two batteries at one go is remote.

Did you by any chance hit the F.Mode or throttle hold switch (inadvertantly)?

Hi Everyone, the problem was a LOW battery (my charger with two additional batteries from HobbyKing is still "held by customs" for more than 5 days) So waiting anxiously for a charger to start some real flight experience instead of SIM.

Thanks!
