Title: WIRELESS SIMULATOR DIY
Post by: sundaram on September 23, 2013, 09:49:12 PM
This DIY Modification is for only for those guys who are on FUTABA or Frsky systems with a Frsky CPPM receiver/WTR-7 or who have access to CPPM receivers available in any other systems

I have a wireless simulator from Hobbyking which I have been using for some time now.

It has seven channels. Somehow after using on Aerofly basic seven channels are distributed like this
Channel 1 : Aileron
Channel 2 : elevator
Channel 3 : throttle
Channel 4 : rudder
Channel 5 : Landing gear
Channel 6 : flap
Channel 7 : swamped with remaining all i.e. wheel brake, autorotation, wing sweep, smoke,...........

So you have to live with smoke and wheel brake all coming on and creating confusion.

I needed at least one more channel when used wireless so the quest to make one wireless simulator by modifying the one of the 9 in 1 wired versions.

Now I saw that Frsky receivers had the provision where in it gives out a CPPM in one of the channels by setting it. All it needed was a 5V to operate and the USB 9 in 1 Simulator provides the 5 V to operate by integrating both voila there you have a wireless simulator with 8 Channels of control.

Parts needed

9 in 1 wired simulator dongle.
Frsky CPPM provision receiver or any other receiver which has a provision for CPPM out.
You can use a WTR-7 also as the receiver.
Servo lead male.

First open your 9-in-1 Simulator Dongle.

Solder the three leads of the servo male lead like this to the Simulator dongle.

For reference USB pinout diagram is as below. Corrected after correctly pointed out by Girish

There you have a wireless simulator dongle with 8 Channels of control. If you can manage a CPPM receiver with more than 8 Channel then your wireless simulator is going to be having that many more control channels. Sadly the receiver which I have has only 8 Channel CPPM.

Anybody aware of any CPPM receivers with more than 8 Channels please post a link.

+1 Sandy sir. RCBazaar Avionics Rx seems to be using the same concept

Frsky's with CPPM - all except the delta one.

PS: the usb pinout needs corretion. D- and D+ are interchanged

Yes Girish saw that one too. So RCBazzar Tx Rx can also be used as wireless sim and as wireless trainer  {:)}

Gaurav was Right Aerofly is not getting more than 8 Channel PPM even with 10 Channel PPM Receiver wherein it should have got a 9 Channel PPM as per documentation. May be I am going wrong some where I am not able to figure out. Here it is drizzling continuous for past two days including sunday. Making good use of the wireless simulators. Now both Param and me can fly both wireless with both our Tx simultaneously.

Posting only my flight video. Nothing great. thanks for watching.

I always like to read all those articles in these books as they are very interesting.
going off topic but the amazing facts on the last pages are my favorite now a days they are repeated again and again.
